Last year was a crazy year. The whole world shut down, and people were sheltered at home. Most of us were not traveling, and for most of us, our big trips were to the supermarket once every few weeks. Now that lots of us are vaccinated and are feeling more comfortable going out. We are venturing on vacation. Most are through local trips.
I took a trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. As a child, I used to go often. My family had a mountain house. More recently, I have been going up to the White Mountains because my brother’s family bought a place up in the area.
Most people know this area for skiing in the winter and fall foliage. But there is more than that. In the spring and summer, there are lots of fun things to do. I am sharing my ultimate travel guide to the White Mountains. Now I must preference this with depending on where you are staying different activities might be farther than other areas. Like the saying goes in New Hampshire, “you can’t get here from there.” There are no roads that cross the state. SO keep this in mind.

Lupine Flowers. They only bloom for a month in June and can be found in Sugar Hill.
Things to do in the White Mountains of New Hampshire (A Trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire):
Pollys Pancake Parlor: Pollys is a restaurant specializing in pancakes and maple products. Pollys has been a staple in NH for as long as I can remember. We used to go at least once a year growing up. That is how good it is. The views from the restaurant are spectacular. You look out on a wide-open field, trees, and mountains. It is worth the sometimes over an hour wait for their food—insider tip. You can do call-ahead seating ( So I would call 15 minutes before arriving).

The Mount Washington Hotel: The Mount Washington Hotel is a historic hotel. It looks out at Mount Washington and vast views of nature. The Mount Washington Hotel is over 100 years old and has some hidden gems. For example, did you know they have a cave that is a bar. The food in their restaurant is outstanding. I had their hot wing that is made with their rub. I highly recommend them. Also, even if you are not staying there, you can use their tennis court and play on their golf course.

The Polar Caves: The Polar Caves are a fun place to climb in and out of cave rock formations. If one of the caves is too challenging, you can take one of their bypasses. The whole thing will take about 45 minutes and take you up to spectacular views. This is a fun thing to do with the entire family. Everyone will enjoy it.

Natural Waterslides: The Natural Waterslides are on the side of the road on the Kanga Mangus Highway. These are rocks that are in the Pemagwaset river. They are slanted just right so you can slide down them.
Artist Bluff: Artists Bluff is a moderate hike that is only 1.5 miles that lead up to the most beautiful views. Artest Bluff is in the Franconia Notch State Park. There are two paths you can take the more accessible loop trail and the more challenging, more rocky trail. I have done the rocky trail. It was easier to take up than down. It might have to do with my short legs. If you are doing this hike with anyone hight challenged or a child, I would suggest taking the loop trail.

The Flume: The Flume is a beautiful hike up winding stairs and paths that take you past waterfalls and scenic views. This is an activity any age can do. It is a must-do while in the White Mountains.
Some other things to do-
Clarks Trading post: for a fun train ride
Hobo Country: for mini golf
Loon Mountain: to take a tram ride up and walk down
Rattlesnake mountain: for a good hike
Squam Lake: to see where On Golden Pond was filmed
The Little Red School House: for the most amazing lobster rolls
