Places to walk/Hike in and around Boston

Over the Pandemic, I found so many amazing places to walk and hike. So I thought I would share places to walk/hike in and around Boston. There are so many hidden gems in this city. Some I did not even know about, and I thought I knew all the places to walk and or hike. The great thing is all the places I have found are smattered all over the city so there is a place near where you might live.

It is so lovely to get out and get some exercise but not do the same old walk through the neighborhood. There are some fantastic views of the city from some of these hikes. The views of the city in the fall are even more spectacular because the leaves are changing color. Not every city has walking places so close to so many parts of the city. We are lucky to have this in Boston. One of my favorite places to hike is the Blue Hills. The Blue Hills are in midfield just south of the city. For years this has been a well know hiking place. There are lots of different paths. Some are easier than others. All of the trails lead to the top, where there is a spectacular view of the city. Not only do the Blue hills have hiking trails, but it also has a small ski hill. There is also a pond that you can walk around and swim in. This is not the only great place to hike. There are a bunch of other ones too. Below I am sharing them all.

New England Travel Guide: Places to walk/Hike in and around Boston:

Noanet Woodlands– in Dover is a moderate hike that brings you up to treetop view with a peek out to Boston. Noanet Woodlands has a few different trails that you can easily do within a few hours. It is a lovely place to hike where different activity levels can all hike and have a good time. It is part of the Trustees, so there is a small fee to hike. The cost helps pay for the upkeep of the trails and surrounding areas.

Hammond Pond Reservation and Houghton Gardens-  This is a hidden gem. I have lived in this area most of my life and never knew it was here. There are a few trails that cross with each other. You can start on one and then go onto another one. They have some decent-sized rocks to rocks that you can climb. You can cross over the T tracks on the Chestnut Hill mall side, and you can go into the Houghton Gardens. Houghton gardens is a hidden find in one of the neighborhoods of Newton. There is a stream and pretty foliage with trails that lead one into the other. I highly recommend checking out this walk.

The Minuteman commuter Bikeway, Or as most call it, Lexington Bike Path- The Lexington Bike Path goes from Cambridge to Bedford. It is called a bike path, and many people ride bikes on it, but many people also walk/run on it. It is an excellent place to walk, see some pretty houses and some horses. Some side paths take you along the marsh and trees. If you want a long walk from Lexington to Bedford, that is 13 miles down and back. Any ability can have an excellent time walking on the bike path.

Horn Pond Woburn: Horn Pond is a large pond you can walk around with trails off it that go up to a fantastic view of the city. This is an incredibly spectacular view in the fall. The multi-colored trees enhance the view of the city.
