How to Create your 2023 Vision Board

Hello, friends. Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s the start of another year. I hope you all had a spectacular holiday. Mine was quiet, and I liked it because thanksgiving was a little busier.
While we are all winding down from all the fun, It is time to start thinking about our goals and visions for the year. It is helpful to have a visual way to see them, so you are reminded of what you are striving toward.

This year's vision board.

A few years ago, I was introduced to creating vision boards by my friend Jamie. She hosted a vision board class where she guided us on creating a board to help us create the life we were striving for.
The basics of a vision board are to have a visual way to see your goals and the things you are striving toward. Be it personal, work goals, or both. My vision board combines both personal and work goals. I also have my word of the year on my vision board, and I added a mantra this year. For each of us, this might be slightly different.

When creating a vision board, I find it helpful to have only a few goals but about 5-10 ( I did go over by one, but I also have work and personal all in one). Five is good if you have big goals and closer to 10 if they are mostly smaller goals. I also sit in a quiet room or go for a walk where I can think about the goals I had last year. How many did I meet? How many do I roll over of the ones I didn’t meet? I also take this time to brainstorm what I want for goals for the New Year.

Three things I want to insist on are. One is Don’t feel bad if you did not reach all your goals. Nobody does. It may take more than one sitting to figure out your goals. Third, your plans do not need to be big small goals are just as rewarding as big ones. I wanted to get a running start on my year the second it turned 2023. I have a big trip coming up, and I wanted to get started with planning out what companies I want to reach out to for collaborations.

One day while running errands, I had my vision board inspiration pop into my head. When this happens, I will pull over and write them down to remember them (I get ideas while driving). As soon as I got home, I went straight to my computer and started planning my year.

Other ways I come up with ideas are by scrolling through Pinterest. There are many good pins with fabulous ideas for home, goals, recipes, wellness, and Fashion. I get inspired by all the content I find there. You can also collect magazines from friends and family. Why magazines, you may ask. They can also have great inspirational ideas or pictures you can use if you are creating a vision board to hang up in your house. We will discuss that soon.

Ok, on to creating your board. Once you have your goals for the year, you are picked out. Then, it is time to start picking photos or graphics that align with each plan. I like creating my vision board on my computer using Canva, but another way you can create your board is using cardboard, magazines, pictures you print off the internet, and fun doodads you find at the craft store.

When creating a vision board, I like to have a short description of the visual. Like the 10k on my board, I want to hit 10k unique visitors on all my social media accounts. So I wrote that next to the graphic. Something else I have on my board is positive affirmations Like you are fantastic. I need those every so often to hype myself up. I have words of encouragement, but you don’t need to.

Lastly, once your board is done, where should you put it? The best answer is somewhere you will see it every day. Like the back of your bedroom door or a Bedroom closet (if you want it to be hidden from others but in a spot, you will see it). I put mine on my computer because I use it daily. Therefore, I will see it often.
