The Shaming of the Pearls….
I feel like I should be ashamed to admit this but, in some childish way I feel like wearing this as a badge of honor since I came out more victorious than most. What am I referring to is the collaboration between Lilly Pulitzer and Target, or should we call it the heavy weight title fight of this past Sunday. We as adults should be ashamed of the grabing, pushing and yelling we did just to get a hold of a pice of our queen the high practice of the preppydome. Yes it was amazing that you could buy more then one Lilly pice for about the price of one piece at her signature store and for this just barley paying the bills each month preschool teacher it was like a dream come true. Since the announcement in January that there would be a collaboration, I had been clamering to find any little pice of information I could find. I dreamed about what the collection might look like and what kind of items they might sell. Around February I found someone who started a a Instagram account called Lillyfortarget. That started my hunt for the look book, since they were showing some pictures of items that would be in the collaboration. Not till closer to the end of March did we all find out what all the items would look like. I had friends and family filling my inbox and Facebook with any little bits of information they found since they all know how much I love Lilly’s stuff. I drooled and I scrutinized each item. I saved pictures of my favorite pices so I could figure out which ones I really wanted. I even talked about the sale with anyone who I though would listen. It was my birthday right before the sale so I even asked for a target gift certificate from my aunt. Now on the day of the sale I got up at 7:15 so I could get to target early. I knew there would be people there, but did not know there would be a line down the block. I took my mom with me since she had never been to a target collaboration and wanted to go. But, I am not sure she will ever go again lol. While we all waited in line, one of the target employees come out to answer any questions we had and I went over my plan with my mom. When the clock struck 8:00 the doors opened and people walked in nicely till they saw the Rays shooting off the Lilly racks. I grabbed a cart and started walking faster. Once my mom saw all the people starting to run, grabing and eating up any item they could find like a sharks at feeling time. She told me to go and took the cart. Once all those items were gone the crowd dispersed going in two directions, some to accessories and some to household. I yelled at my mom meet me at household and started walking faster. Once I got there the Sharks were eating again. There were only about four sets of each item so they went fast. Then we found out there was more in the back. They could not even get the items out of the box before people would start grabing or call out I would like that. Once all the items were gone my mom and I walked around hoping to find any little left overs. We did find someone who had some children’s clothing she did not want so we wound up with a few things for my nieces along with a dress (that is too big for me), a set of four Bowles, a beach towel and two pillows. All and all it was an experience and I would totally do it again. Here are some pictures from my morning at the Lilly and Target collaboration.
P.S- Please excuse how I look but sleep and Lilly are precious.
